Week 1 Staff Predictions: Bears vs. Lions

Chicago Bears football is just around the corner as they are set to take on the Detroit Lions in their Week 1 matchup. The Bears are coming off a disappointing 8-8 season, but they are hoping to bounce back after having the 29th ranked offense and battling a couple of injuries.

The big headline going into the season was who would be the starting quarterback for the Bears come Week 1, and that determined to be Mitchell Trubisky. The 26-year old beat out 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles after the Bears acquired him in the offseason with a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Lions are coming off another tough season where they secured the third overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and used it on CB Jeff Okudah. Last year the Lions saw their star QB, Matthew Stafford, miss the majority of the season due to an injury and had to watch David Blough and Jeff Driskel lead the team.

The Bears are 4-0 against Detroit with Matt Nagy being the head coach and Trubisky has had some success against the Lions as he’s 3-0 with a 132.4 passer rating, but the team has lost six straight season openers. The Bears might be without some key players as new DE Robert Quinn is doubtful, then Khalil Mack, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Buster Skrine are questionable, but expected to play. The Lions have listed their star, WR Kenny Golladay, as doubtful.
