Week 4 Staff Predictions: Bears vs. Colts

They might not be pretty wins, but it doesn’t matter the Chicago Bears are 3-0 and are now getting ready to play the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are coming off a dominating performance over the New York Giants.

This is the Bears’ first major challenge of the year as their first three games were against winless opponents, the Colts are 2-1 with their only loss coming in Week 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bears made a franchise-changing decision in their comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons where they replaced quarterback Mitchell Trubisky with Nick Foles. Now, Foles will get his first start as a Bear after completing a 16-point comeback and throwing 16-for-29 for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

The Colts defense has been their greatest strength so far this season as the past two weeks they have given up two touchdowns. The Colts’ defense against the Jets forced three interceptions and two of them were pick-sixes.

The weakness for the Colts has been their offense. Former Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is struggling with three touchdowns and three interceptions. The key for the Bears is to make sure the Colts offense doesn’t get a big gain on the first or two-second down because the Colts third-down offense is the worst in the league at 30% conversion. The Bears defense holds opponents to a 31% conversion rate, second-best in the NFL.

It seems like it’s going to be a defensive game unless bringing in Foles changes the offense and brings some consistency. Hopefully, for Bears fans, they don’t have to go through another up-and-down game, but for the Bears, good teams find ways to win games, even if it’s down a couple of scores.
