I don’t know about you, but I love vacations. I love getting out of the monotony of my daily routine and exploring new places, but there doesn’t seem to be such a thing as a cheap (and still enjoyable) vacation. From hotels and airfare to food and activities, it all adds up and usually exceeds my budget. Unfortunately for me, one place that I’ve always dreamed of going is also one of the most expensive places to travel in the world. I feel like a lot of people also have this problem, so we’re going to take a completely 100% free vacation right now! Destination: Paris, one of the most expensive places to travel, but do we care? No, because we’re going virtually!
After taking a refreshing nap through most of your 8-hour flight, you’re awakened by the oohs and aahs coming from the other passengers as they press their noses to the windows. You wipe the grogginess out of your eyes, peek to the world below, and you can’t believe your eyes. It’s the Eiffel Tower! You’re finally here! Once you land, you have a chance to look around at all the beautiful historical buildings and can’t wait to explore every one!
First, you sign up for a guided tour through the Louvre, and while you wait, you walk around the Louvre pyramid taking in every angle of the beautifully constructed pyramid of glass. When you walk into the actual pyramid itself, your breath is taken away as you descend down the huge spiral staircase into the main building hiding below ground. It’s bustling with people, but you feel as though you’re the only one standing in the space, staring up at the beautiful Louvre building itself through the glass ceiling.
It’s your turn to take a tour and you’re simply blown away as you walk through exhibit after exhibit of magnificent, historical art. You’re glad you got such a knowledgeable tour guide showing you each piece because you’re learning so much, not just about the artwork itself, but the history behind it. Occasionally, you notice that your mouth is hanging open out of sheer awe of the history and beauty all around you.
After the tour, you realize it’s starting to get dark, so you quickly grab a croissant at a local cafe and head to Place du Trocadero because you heard it’s the best place to view the Eiffel Tower. You board a boat on the Seine River and watch the beautiful city of Paris pass by as you eat the best croissant you’ve ever tasted. The boat takes a slight turn around the curve of the river and the Eiffel Tower starts to come into view. It looks magnificent all lit up, glowing over the city. You take a moment to pinch yourself and yep, you’re awake. You’re really in Paris watching the Eiffel Tower light up the city!
When you get off the boat and finally arrive at Place du Trocadero, you can see why everyone on the boat was so excited to get here. It’s gorgeous! For a few minutes, you just stand in awe of the huge, bright structure towering over you. It’s truly magical, standing in the place where so many iconic scenes in literature and film occurred.
Once the sun has gone down and the city is glowing strictly from streetlights and the Eiffel Tower, you hop back on a boat on the Seine River and head back to that elegant restaurant you saw on the way. It has a patio that protrudes over the river with a great view of the city and looks like the perfect place to grab an authentic French meal. You’re seated at the best table with a basket of fresh steamy bread and your favorite chilled beverage. After taking a second to relax and take in the view before reviewing the menu, you realize it’s going to be very hard to decide what you are going to order. Wait…this is a virtual vacation! We can order everything!
I don’t know about you, but that seems like the perfect ending to the perfect day in Paris.
