By Lucas Burris

The #1 ranked North Central College football team will travel to Alliance, Ohio this Saturday to face off against the #4 ranked Mount Union Purple Raiders in the Division III Football Playoff National Semifinals.

WONC Sports, the official radio voice of NCC Athletics, will join the Cardinals in their trip to Mount Union Stadium to provide fans with the home radio broadcast.

This is the Cardinals’ 13th playoff appearance and third semifinal appearance, all three coming since 2013. This season the Cardinals are 12-0 averaging 57.2 points per game while giving up only 11.1 points per game against. The 2019 National Champions have a 22-11 historical playoff record but are 7-0 in the playoffs since 2019. The Cardinals are 1-1 in the semifinal round.

Mount Union is making their 32nd playoff appearance as the Purple Raiders have captured 13 National Titles since 1993. Mount Union is 13-0 this season averaging 47.8 points per game and 11.9 points per game against. The 2017 National Champions hold a 107-18 historical playoff record and have won 55 of their last 56 home playoff games.

The two teams will face off for the third time in their histories this Saturday. The first matchup took place in the 2013 National Semifinal where the #1 Purple Raiders defeated #4 Cardinals 41-40 at Mount Union. The second took place in 2019 during the second round of the playoffs. The #5 ranked Cardinals defeated the #1 ranked Purple Raiders 59-52 at Mount Union in what many believe to be one of the greatest D3 Football Playoff games ever.

This third matchup on Saturday will be one of the most anticipated matchups in NCAA Division III football history.

Lucas Burris and Sam Corbett will be on the call for the semifinal game just as the two have been all season long for NCC Football. The game is scheduled for kickoff at 11:00 AM (CST) with the official Cardinal Football pregame show beginning at 10:45 AM. You can find the broadcast on your radio dial at FM 89.1 or online right here at WONC.org or on iHeart Radio.
