It’s time for another round of A Little Birdie Told Me. In this edition, we’ll take a closer look at the band Emery.
After relocating to Seattle, Emery signed to the nearby Tooth & Nail Records and released their first album The Weak’s End in 2004. Since then, Emery has been making marks within the Christian music scene, scoring two #1 albums on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. With a dynamic spin on the idea of being Christian, Emery has gone through the ringer both stylistically and lyrically across their career.
And now onto some fun facts:
- The titles listed on Emery’s second album The Question are phrases that complete the printed inquiry posed on the back of the CD case: “Where were you when I was…”
- The band’s name stems from a first grader that lead singer Toby Morrell encountered during his time in the education field, later finding out that emery is a material used to polish diamonds.
- “It Always Depends” (a song off their EP The Columbus EEP Thee) would later be re-recorded for the EP While Broken Hearts Prevail under the name “Always Depends.”
That’s all for this edition of A Little Birdie Told Me. See you in the next one!
