We’re the radio voice of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. We’re completely student run and broadcast at the 89.1 frequency on the FM dial as well as online. Check us out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Our station was named the 2015 Abraham and Borst Best College Radio Station of the Year by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. We’re the most awarded station in the country, and actively participate in commercial and student broadcast competitions throughout the year. Our staffers routinely earn internships with Chicagoland broadcasting and news outlets such as Naperville Community Television, WGN TV, ESPN, Hubbard Radio, Patch News, and AlphaMedia.
WONC has been a part of the fabric of life in Chicago’s western suburbs for more than fifty years. We first went on-air in 1968, and since then, we’ve gone through many changes, but continue to grow and stay dedicated to our listeners. We’re an entirely student-run station, which means every show, newscast, sportscast, traffic report, and sports broadcast you hear is done by a student of North Central College. All of our audio production is done by students using professional production libraries like Soundsnap and Bentztown Branding.
The station’s programming is described as AOR — that’s “radio lingo” for album-oriented rock. We differ from other stations due to the variety of music that we play. It’s very rare on a radio station to hear Twenty One Pilots or Motion City Soundtrack, followed by The Beatles and CCR. It’s a wide mix of music with an emphasis on balancing new rock with classic rock and all points in between! The radio voice of North Central College is always playing the very best in Pure Rock!
