Rumble Reaction: My Trip to the Biggest Royal Rumble

by Dalton Mont

Over the weekend, Jayden and I went to Indianapolis for the WWE’s Royal Rumble event at Lucas Oil Stadium. A few days before the event, I saw that right down the street from the Rumble, Wrestle Con Indianapolis was going on, and it was free entry. This was obviously an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

Jayden and I decided to get up early on Saturday and we went to the convention before the Rumble. When we got there, we went straight to the Royal Rumble store to see all of the cool Indianapolis-themed wrestling things. After going to the store, we headed to the convention. We met a lot of wrestling legends like Rikishi, Jim Duggan, and Billy Gunn, and asked every wrestler if they would do an interview with us. You never know if you’ll get this kind of opportunity again, so why not take a shot?

Luckily for us, Buff Bagwell, James Ellsworth, Mr. Kennedy, and Matt Cardona all agreed, so we asked them questions like, “What’s your favorite moment of your wrestling career?” We got some good answers, took a few pictures, and had a great overall experience at the convention.

One of the coolest things about going to a huge wrestling event like the Royal Rumble is that there are a lot of wrestling fans around you and it’s fun to meet new people and talk about things that you all love. There were over 70,000 fans in attendance, and I had a great time meeting a bunch of new people.

We didn’t have the most amazing seats, but I honestly only wanted to go because this was a bucket list item of mine. I grew up watching the WWE and the Royal Rumble has always been my favorite event to watch every year because of the surprise element; you never know who’s going to be in the Rumble match! Hall of Famer Trish Stratus was in this year’s women’s match and TNA champion Joe Hendry was in the men’s match.

Another really cool thing is that I went to the event wearing a Jey Uso shirt and Jayden was wearing a Street Profits hoodie. During the event, the Profits made their shocking return and Uso very shockingly won the men’s Rumble match. After Uso won, the crowd went silent in shock for a second before going absolutely crazy. It was super fun to yell and cheer along with all the other Jey Uso fans.

I’ve wanted to go to a Royal Rumble for as long as I can remember, and I can finally cross it off my bucket list. I also got to meet and talk to some great wrestlers, meet and talk to tons of fans, and have a great overall experience with something I really love. Here’s to hoping I’ll make it to another Rumble!
